Can you tell me about the behavior of a horse…?
Question by berner mom: Can you tell me about the behavior of a horse…?
I was wondering about this…
On my way to college there is a home with 20+ acres of land. From what I can see, they have 4 horses, their pasture goes from the front (by the road) around the back of the house. House is on a well traveled road with neighbors on either side (acre of land in between each house) I can only see part of the stable in the distance.
Had a break from school, went past the house again a week later and noticed that the house had burnt down (YIKES) horses are still on the property but I have seen the owners out there feeding/petting/caring for the horses.
Two days later I seen a sign saying ‘Horse stolen from pasture..call xxx-xxxxx if you know anything about this, reward offered’
I was shocked. These people clearly suffered a huge loss with their house and then someone comes up and steals their horse!!!
I guess this got me to wondering because I do not have horses..
Will a horse go up to anyone that comes into their yard/pasture and load into a carrier?
Are they that compliant that they will follow anyone’s direction?
I just feel so bad for these people. They have lost enough and taking someone’s horse is just WRONG….

Well, it depends on the horse. But yeah, most horses will allow most anyone to catch them, especially if they have food. They are totally different from, say, dogs or birds that are very attached to their owner and won’t go with others. Horses are like other livestock animals (sheep, cattle, pigs, etc) that can be herded around nomatter who you are. I hope those poor people get their horse back!
