Question by : Does anyone know if a pet carrier the size of Lufthansa’s restrictions for the cabin even exists?
I am travelling from Dublin to Frankfurt with Lufthansa and they allow you to book your cat aboard the cabin, providing the pet carrier meets their size restrictions.

It says on the site the allowed dimensions are 55cm x 40cm x 20 cm (about 22″ x 15.5″ x 7.8″) but after an exhaustive Google search I can’t find any carriers that fit this size, even the ones that state they are “airline approved”. The length (55cm) and height (40cm) are absolutely fine, you can find tons below that, but the width (20cm) is ridiculously small and I don’t even think such a carrier even exists!

Does anyone know of one that fits the requirements or alternatively has anyone travelled with Lufthansa and used one that they have allowed even though it’s outside them? Help please!

I believe they offer free, or loan free, a carrier at check-in. Telephone to be sure! But that size is extremely small for a cat. It may be better to opt for a larger kennel as checked luggage. If you read the wording of the statement, it says “you may use your own” that implies that they have some of the airlines own. Again call them.

Question by k-may: How do I know which carrier for my dog is the best?
We have a 5 year old pomeranian and he gets upset while traveling in the vehicles if he sees outside. It is no problem when we take our Jeep, since we put his carrier clear in the back and he sits low enough not to see out the window. But when we take the truck his carrier is in between the seats. It sits up high on the center secretary, can’t fit the carrier in if the secretary is up, so he sees out the window and gets upset. We need to find a carrier small enough to fit in the truck with the secretary up so that he will be low enough not to see out. He weighs less than 15 pounds but still want him to have enough room to feel secure. The one we have now for him is the plastic intermediate size that has the two parts that fit together that was bought at walmart. He loves it but it is large for him. We will taking a trip in a couple of weeks and will be taking the truck so need some suggestions on what kind of carrier would be good not only for making him feel safe and secure but would also fit comfortably in the center seat of the truck. And how do you determine exactly what size is appropriate for the size of him giving him enough room to stretch out. Hope you can give us some good suggestions because once he is where he can’t see out the windows, he enjoys the traveling. Thank you for your help.

Why not use the carrier that you have and put a cover over it so that he doesn’t see out?

Question by Jesus: How picky are airlines about the size of pet carriers for traveling with pets in cabin?
We’ll be traveling internationally with Continental and Lufthansa. Both airlines have different size requirements. Lufthansa is 21.6 x 15.7 x 7.9 inches. Continental is 18 x 11 x 11 inches. Are they going to get out tape measures at the ticket counter? If we’re an inch or two over will it be OK? It’s impossible to to find pet carriers that are exactly the dimensions required. All tips about flying with pets would be greatly appreciated.

the carriers have to fit those dimensions, because the carrier must be able to fit under the seat!

Ive heard of people getting away with squishing a soft carrier under the seat, but if its a hard carrier, you will definantly have to check your pet in as luggage.

Find a carrier that fits those dimensions to be safe.
