Question by Tical12: Will Jetblue Let My Dog Fly If It Exceeds The Weight Limit?
I have a 23 lb., small dog and have booked him a flight on Jetblue ($ 100 in-cabin fee). Their pet guidelines state that the dog AND the carrier can not exceed a combined weight of 20 lbs. I think he’ll be more like 26-28lbs. Will they still let him fly? Please only answer if you have had this issue on Jetblue or can represent Jetblue. Thank you.

I’ve taken my pet on Jet Blue dozens of times. When they pull up your reservation, they will see that you are traveling with a pet. Since you’re bringing it into the cabin, they won’t ask you to weigh the carrier with the pet in it. That’s the only way to find out if you’re overweight.

What type of kennel is the pet in? I carry my dog in a Sherpa collapsible kennel. It’s mesh along the sides so he fits right under the seat. If you have a hard shell carrier, then it may not fit right under the seat.

I’ve never had an issue bringing my pet. No one at the gate ever said “Let me weight he dog..” because there are no scales at the counter.

You won’t be able to check in online or via a kiosk. Since your boarding pass will have PETC on it, you are considered a speical service request. All SSR’s in air travel must check in at the ticket counter. Just keep your pet in the carrier, and you’ll be fine. I highly doubt that they will make you weigh your pet.
