Question by : Traveling long distance with a dog?
What are some tips and hints for traveling with a small dog in a carrier overseas for 30 hours?
I heard you can walk your dog from gate to gate..but I am not sure does anyone know if I am allowed too?
There is one flight that is 12+ hours long and I just feel bad for her being caged up for so long..is there anything I can do while in the air that can help her out a little? I wished I could walk her up and down the aisle or at least take her out

It depends on the airport about what you can do at the airport- I assumed you’ve researched or spoken to your airline about keeping the dog with you, under the seat in front of you, and you know it’s not going to have to go in cargo.

If it’s a twelve hour flight with no stop, there is NOTHING you can do- your dog will have to be in a crate for that long. I assume you can’t drive, or take a boat? Or split the flights in two so your dog can get walked- they’re normally walked by the animal handling staff, but sometimes they do allow owners to walk the dogs, briefly, before the next flight.

I would ask this in PETS since I’m sure alot more of them travel with their dogs than people in TRAVEL do.

Question by Jessica: Crate to use on a flight over 12 hours?
I know the airlines only approve certain types of carriers for pets. But I’m not finding anything large enough for a flight this long where there’d be separate areas for sleeping, food and to eliminate. Do they make something for flights of this length? Thanks!

A full grown dog can go 12 hours+ without food. Travel, especially air travel, is stressful for a dog to begin with. Feed the night before you leave and then not until after you’ve arrived and settled in. Traveling on a full tummy is only likely to add vomit into the mix. But, to answer your question, dogs crates aren’t meant to be eliminated in. Make sure your dog goes at the airport before check-in and as soon as you land and it should be fine. The crate should be large enough for the dog to stand and turn around in. Fresh water can be given via bottle, but make sure its a good on that wont leak; otherwise your dog will have an uncomfortable trip.

Going to spain and i heard you just bring him by carrier and can put him under your seat the whole flight instead of them taking him…

You must call the airline and make a request (and have the request confirmed as there is a limit on the number of animals allowed on board, depending on the airline/ aircraft type/class of service)for the dog. The rules may vary by airline, but basically if the dog is less than 15 lbs/ 8kg then you can take with you in the cabin. They will notify you how much the charge is.
